Maddie Palubicki

PRESIDENT & PRESIDENT ELECT

After graduating from UW-Eau Claire in 2022 with a degree in Geology, I began working for Tetra Tech as a Project Engineering Technician. The office I work in has a focus on the solid waste industry, so many of my projects revolve around landfill sites. I am typically on-site performing CQA activities, often on cell construction projects throughout the Midwest. I did not have a background in solid waste prior to starting my job, so learning the ins and outs of the landfill world has been very interesting.

I joined ASCE mid-2022 and presented at the 2023 Spring Technical Conference about the engineering aspects of a cell construction project in southwest Minnesota. I am looking forward to continuing to learn and network in the organization. I currently live in Chippewa Falls, and when I am not in the field, I enjoy hiking, fishing, and photography.

Andy Walters, P.E.

SECRETARY/TREASURER

I work as the Regional Manager for American Engineering Testing out of Schofield (Wausau). My work experience ranges from geotechnical engineering at large mining operations around North America, transportation projects in the upper Midwest, and a wide range of private sector projects. I graduated in May 2005 from UW-Platteville and obtained my P.E. in the fall of 2009. I was a Northwest Branch Director for 4 years and have been your Secretary/Treasurer for the past 9 years. I look forward to continuing to serve the Northwest Branch as the Secretary/Treasurer as well as continuing in other branch activities; performing K-12 outreach presentations, and assisting in coordinating Branch meetings in the Wausau area.

Outside of work I enjoy coaching my kids sports (baseball/basketball), am an avid bowler during the winter months and love playing golf and horseshoes during the summer. My two kids are now 14 and 13 years of age and keep my wife and I very busy. We try to squeeze in camping trips when we can.

Mike Binsfield

DIRECTOR

I am very much looking forward to my continued involvement in the northwest Branch and the Wisconsin Section for the 2024-25 term. Being a board member for the last several years has allowed me the chance to connect with great people who share the same enthusiasm for the industry in which we work. I feel very strongly that ASCE offers excellent opportunities for its members and in continuing the stewardship of the Civil Engineering profession.

After graduating in 2006 from Purdue University with a Bachelor in Civil Engineering, I worked with Kiewit's Bridge and Marine Division participating in the construction of large scale, technical bridge projects along the Pacific Coastline.  My wife, Betsy, our three children, and I have since moved back to our hometown of La Crosse where I work for J.F. Brennan Company, a La Crosse, WI based contractor who specializes in heavy marine construction, environmental remediation, and barge transportation. My role as COO includes management of daily operations, client relations, contract governance, personnel development, and budget oversight.  I’ve recently completed a Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Wisconsin in La Crosse and continue to look for opportunities to educate myself and those with whom I work. I’ve always found ASCE to be one of the best ways to connect with industry associates and elevate the quality of learning opportunities.

Matt Williams, PE

DIRECTOR

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009 with bachelor’s degrees in Geological Engineering and Geology & Geophysics. I started my career in geotechnical engineering in the UW-Madison Geotechnical Laboratory working under Professor Craig H. Benson for the Alternative Cover Assessment Program (ACAP), followed by micro-pile drilling oversite at Soils & Engineering Services, Inc. (SES) for the Epic Campus in Verona, Wisconsin. I then worked as a Geotechnical Specialist for TRC Companies in Madison, Wisconsin, where one of my projects involved the repair of a sinkhole inside an active landfill; this was the topic of my presentation at the 2022 ASCE Wisconsin Section Annual Meeting.

For the last 7 years I have worked as a geotechnical engineer in central Wisconsin working at Nummelin Testing Services, Inc. (NTS) in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and now working as a Project Manager and Geotechnical Engineer at American Engineering & Testing (AET) in Wausau, Wisconsin, alongside Northwest ASCE WI branch Secretary/Treasurer Andy Walters. I have had the pleasure of attending ASCE events with Andy including the UWSP STEAM days this past February, which also included fellow ASCE members Hashim Chaudhuri and Dan Borchardt. I look forward to becoming more involved with ASCE, and meeting more fellow members who have a passion for civil engineering. Outside of engineering, my passions include playing keyboards in bands, hiking, biking, kayaking, and snowboarding.

Shawn Demers, PE

DIRECTOR

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville with a BS in Civil Engineering and a transportation and municipal emphasis. Since graduation I've moved to the La Crosse area and began working at ISG. My role has varied over the years, from working with our transportation team, to doing construction administration, to what I do now which is primarily site and stormwater design.

When I'm not working, I like to spend time with family, play lots of board games, and go on camping trips. My wife and I welcomed our first child earlier this year, which has kept us pretty busy, but we still try our best to make it outdoors and explore all La Crosse has to offer.

Corona Woychik

PAST PRESIDENT

I graduated from Iowa State University with a BS in Civil Engineering in December 2015, and continued to be actively involved with ASCE as I began my professional career at ISG in La Crosse. As a student, I was a member of ASCE, actively involved with ISU’s Steel Bridge team, and a member of the Steel Bridge construction crew in 2014. As a full-time professional in the working world, I’ve returned to the area I’ve grown up in, and I work at ISG doing both private and public transportation design and traffic engineering work. I have appreciated the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, and I am eager to continue being actively involved with ASCE.

My family lives in the La Crosse area and my husband and I spend our weekends taking our two girls to various outdoor or family activities, usually involving animals or lots of music. On the rare occasions we all have a quiet day at home, we like to lounge in our backyard and talk walks to the local parks both in our neighborhood and those lining the Mississippi River.

Most people dream about doing great things, Civil Engineers make great things happen.
